Non-Allen Bradley controllers
We have not tested nor officially support other Ethernet IP masters beyond Micrologix1400 ( explicit only ), Compactlogix, and Contrologix.
However, the following demonstrates the different command types supported by the AKD2G EtherNet/IP drive standard assemblies. Many customers using a non-AB PLC or other EtherNet/IP device which cannot use the add on instruction library have found the following application note useful.
AKD2G EtherNet/IP Cyclic IO Assemblies and Explicit Messaging In this application note, we’ll demonstrate the different command types supported by the AKD2G EtherNet/IP drive. While the PLC screenshots demonstrate using an Allen Bradley PLC ( Compactlogix in this case ) the methods are not AB specific but part of the EtherNet/IP protocol using the AKD2G EtherNet/IP drive. Some PLCs ( Omron? ) require the use of an EDS file. Again we have not tested the use of this file with specific 3rd party controllers.
The application note is split into two documents one for each axis.
When using PLCs that do not support the add on instructions, each document demonstrates each method and populating the correct bytes with data and toggling the correct bits of the control word.
