TwinCAT Communication DriveGUI

Introduction

Since version 2.3.1 of the DriveGUI it's possible to communicate via the TwinCAT PLC. It's possible to communicate with both TwinCAT versions: 2.x or 3.x. Due to the efficient implementation of ADS-messaging system, the system load is far below the serial communication.

Prerequisite

• TwinCAT can work with the following SERVOSTAR devices, from firmware version 5.35 fast communication is possible.
  • S300 (old/new Hardware Revision Number)
  • S700 (old/new Hardware Revision Number)
• TwinCAT must be set up correctly: all devices, which are to be communicated with, must be listed in the TwinCAT project
• DriveGUI must be installed on the same machine where the TwinCAT control operates.
• TwinCAT should be in "run mode" or "fee run" must be enabled in "config mode".
• Communication is independent of the settings of the parameter DRVCNFG3 (mailboxsytem).

Connection

• In DriveGUI "Communication - Select interface ... " -> "TwinCAT - EtherCAT " must be selected
• After click on "Connect" a window pops-up, were you must enter the AMSNetID of the EtherCAT master.
• This ID is registered in the System Manager under "I/O - Configuration -> Device x (EtherCAT) -> I/O Devices" in the text box "NetID" in the tab EtherCAT.
• To identify the drive, the EtherCAT address and the alias is displayed
