Using US Robotics Modems with PiC900s

This document refers to G&L PiC application note AN000010 and describes using US Robotics Modems with PiC900's.

New revisions of the US Robotics 14.4 Sportster FAX Modems will not function when used to communicate to a PiC over a modem.

Symptom:

Modem connected to the PiC will not answer.

Solution:

US Robotics acknowledges that the new -05 versions will not auto-answer when configured for dumb mode.  Older revisions (-00, -01 or -02) will work fine.  Specify to the vendor that you need a modem with a serial number beginning with 000268xx, where ‘xx’ is the revision number.  The -05 version will still work for the modem connected to PC.
