KAS Crash Reporting Updates: Improved Security and Reliability for Crash Log Uploads
We are committed to continuously improving the security, performance, and reliability of the Kollmorgen Automation Suite (KAS). As part of this effort, the crash reporting feature in the KAS-IDE has been enhanced starting with KAS v4.04.
Overview of the Crash Reporting Enhancement
At Kollmorgen, we put significant effort into designing and validating KAS to deliver a robust and dependable user experience. Our goal is to always prevent crash situations from occurring altogether.
However, in the rare event that a crash does occur, the KAS-IDE automatically generates a crash log containing diagnostic details. With user consent, these logs are uploaded to the Kollmorgen server to support root-cause analysis and continuous product improvement.
Beginning with KAS v4.04, the crash report feature has been updated to use secure file transfer protocol (SFTP) when uploading crash log files. This security enhancement protects data in transit and aligns with current Kollmorgen cybersecurity standards.
Impact on Older KAS Versions
KAS-IDE versions prior to v4.04 do not support SFTP.
As a result:
- Crash logs generated by older IDE versions will fail to upload to the Kollmorgen server.

- This may limit the ability of the Kollmorgen development team to diagnose issues experienced on earlier software releases.
Recommendation: Update to the Latest KAS Version
Upgrading to the latest KAS version is strongly recommended to maintain full crash-reporting functionality.
The most recent KAS Runtime and IDE releases are available for download on the official Kollmorgen website: KAS Downloads | Kollmorgen.
Upgrading ensures:
- Secure crash log uploads.
- Access to the new features and enhancements.
- Improved stability and performance.
If Updating Is Not Possible
