Direct Drives

General
Direct Drives are drives, with the electrical machine and the machine are directly connected. The motor in such a way laid out that he has directly the number of revolutions of the machine, without a gear box.
With the conventional drive technology a servo motor is used. If the machine should require very small or very high numbers of revolutions (velocity), a speed adjustment is obtained with a gear head. Thus the entire drive unit becomes larger and heavier, the overall efficiency sinks by the additional transmission losses and it develops additional play, which e.g. with position drives is problematic.
Advantages of a Direct Drive
- No gear head
- Transmission costs are void
- less wear
- fewer noises
- no oil losses
- smaller space requirement
- higher structural rigidity
- integrated drive
- high dynamics
