Explosion Proof PMDC Motor Vertical Mounting

The question has been raised as to whether the Explosion Proof PMDC EP Series motors may be vertically mounted with the shaft facing up.  The answer is no.

Vertical Mounting – Shaft Up:The preload spring at the back of the motor will maintain the shaft in the front forward position until a minimum axial load of 35 – 50 lbs. is applied.  At this point the preload spring will start to compress.

Vertical Mounting – Shaft Down: The motor may be mounted shaft down as the bearing will seat against the front end bell bearing bore and the shaft shoulder will be against the backside of the bearing.
