ENEC Marking

General

The ENEC mark demonstrates compliance with agreed safety standards for electronic products and is applied by countries across the European Union. The mark confirms compliance with European safety standards and is provided by all national certification bodies, which have signed the European CENELEC Certification Agreement (CCA).

The ENEC mark is combined with the identification number of the certification body:

Prior to the introduction of the ENEC mark, various national certification marks of individual countries were required in order to import and export products to then sell them in different countries. With the founding of the CENELEC Certification Agreement (CCA) back in 1973 for the recognition of test results, manufacturers' interests were aroused with regard to using a uniform certification mark throughout all European countries.

Since the ENEC Agreement came into force on October 5 1993, approval certificates have been issued by the 20 participating national certification bodies for almost 5,000 products. The ENEC mark is protected against misuse in all issuing countries.

Both industrial and consumer organizations are strong supporters of extending the area of validity of the uniform European mark to include other products, with such a process significantly increasing the degree of identification for end users, while simultaneously lowering manufacturing costs. It was for exactly this reason that from January 1996, the ENEC Agreement was re-developed to encompass all electronic products.

Information regarding certified products

Any products certified with the ENEC mark are stored on a central database, which allows the participating national certification bodies, manufacturers, users or end consumers and finally European authorities to access the latest information at any time.
