New servo generation: Capable of even more!

AKM2G servo motor range from KOLLMORGEN: 30% more performance. The new generation of synchronous servo motors will be launched in 2017 and will initially feature six design sizes with performance levels between 0,3 and 10 kW. The AKM2G servo motors can be fitted with different feedback systems and are primarily provided with single-cable connection technology. Improved energy efficiency as well as room for more performance with the same installed size.


AKM™ is the name for a versatile permanent magnet motor

With 8 standard frame sizes plus 28 frame-stack length available and a comprehensive choice of voltage, feedback, braking and interfacing options, Kollmorgen AKM permanent magnet motors offer unprecedented flexibility and performance advantages - with more than 50,000 combinations offered across the range. Furthermore, thanks to its modular concept the AKM facilitates straightforward co-engineered modifications such as special windings, shafts, and mechanical/electrical interfacing to meet our customers' exact requirements. This motor boasts exceptional torque-density characteristics, producing up to 47% more shaft power - allowing a reduction in motor and drive size as well as a more compact installation.


A synchronous motor for washdown and washdown food: an economic alternative to stainless steel

AKM Washdown series synchronous motors are a practical and cost-effective alternative to motors that employ high grade stainless steel housings. With IP67 rated PTFE sealing, a special two-component epoxy coating and stainless steel output shafts these synchronous motors ensure complete resistance to corrosive chemicals including highly alkaline or acidic cleaning products. The special Washdown Food coating fulfils the requirements according to 21 CFR 175.300 of the US FDA Regulations.


AKMH Stainless Steel Series

The AKMH makes for quick cleaning. Designed for CIP (Clean-In-Place) with no need for covers, the AKMH will maximize your uptime and profits. With 19 sizes available in multiple standard configurations, the AKMH family will open the door for more opportunities to replace expensive air or dirty hydraulic axes with a clean and high performing servo motor solution.


KBM™ Series Frameless

The KBM™ Series is designed to be directly embedded in your machine, using the machine’s own bearings to support the rotor. With a huge selection of standard motors—plus our ability to quickly and cost-effectively incorporate co-engineered modifications—you can choose an exact-fit motor that provides the highest performance in the most compact space.


Cartridge DDR®

Our exclusive Cartridge DDR® servo motors combine the performance advantages of a frameless motor with the ease of installation of a full-frame motor. They feature an integrated, factory-aligned high resolution feedback device and a unique bearingless design that couples directly to the load, using the machine’s own bearings to support the rotor. Most models can be installed in under five minutes.


ICH Ironcore: Powerful precision - as much as you want

Preventing Bacteria: Hygienic stainless steel linear actuators

Reduce cleaning times without compromising on performance and installation space: Kollmorgen combines an AKMH™ stainless steel motor with a linear actuator and a ready-to-install hygienic linear drive, which are ideal for lifting units, measure pourers, or format adjustments in the packaging, food processing or pharmaceutical industries. The extremely compact linear actuators are available as inline or reverse units in various motor/spindle combinations.


Frequently Asked Questions

Can we do dual loop with the dual-axis AKD2G? On both axes? If so, how?
Yes, this is possible. Use either I/O (extension is included in Dual Axis) or use EtherCAT.

Does AKD2G have encoder emulation output?
Yes, you will need X22.

Can I do encoder emulation for both axes in the AKD2G dual-axis drive? If so, how?
Yes, but you will have to use both I/O (for one axis) and X23 (for the other axis). This can be done via EtherCAT.

I want one axis to follow the other on a dual-axis AKD2G. How do I accomplish this?
There are three possible solutions to this. Hardwiring I/O to X23, using EtherCAT, or designing a dedicated control mechanism with MechaWare

Are the SFA and resolver a “safety rated solution” like the resolver is currently with it’s dual channels?
No. Resolver is not offered as a “safe encoder” by Kollmorgen. You will need a digital safe encoder. The AKD2G offers H-DSL and EnDat 2.2 as safe solutions.

Are the continuous/peak ratings of an AKD2G dual-axis drive a total for both axes, or rated per axis?
The current rating of AKD2G is per axis, so a 3A continuous AKD2G dual axis has 3A continuous available for each axis.

Can you only use motors with a single cable for feedback/power with the AKD2G?
No. The AKD2G is optimized for single cable motors but separate power and feedback two cable motors do work with the AKD2G. You need to order the SFA cable adapter or use X23.

Is the STO on each axis of a dual-axis AKD2G, is it dual-channel STO?
Yes, there is a dual channel STO for each axis in the drive.

Is the same GUI software used for programming the AKD2G and AKD?
Yes, Workbench works both for the AKD and AKD2G, but parameters/programs are not transferrable from the AKD to the AKD2G at this point.

How many I/O does the AKD2G provide?
The AKD2G provides up to 28 I/0.

  • 16 I/O is standard for the single axis
  • 28 I/O is standard for the dual axis
  • An I/O expansion is available for the single axis model, which adds an additional 12 I/O on X22 for a total of 28 I/O.
