DDR D Regen into AKD 230V | 18 Dec 2014 | |

DDR D Regen into AKD 230V

My Motionieering Power Supply summary shows only 7.3 Bus watts and no regen Watts to index a 36" table (163.6 lb in sec^2 inertia with nest) 45 degrees in 1.45 sec using trapazoid profile and 0.2 sec accel and decel.  This is a Housed DDR solution, so looking at the D083M and AKD0606 on 230V.  Am I correct that once I size the application and save the solution, the Power Supply Summary on the project list main window will show required regen energy by clicking on the Power Supply Sizing icon?  Just seems very low wattage for such an inertia and 200ms decel.  Similar AKM motors reported 40 watts and that was using 140 to 1 gear reduction.  Just making sure I do not have a regen issue with teh DDR solution.

One reason is your only going to run 7~10RPM so the back EMF, from the motor, is not enough to create excess voltage on the drive's DC bus.  As an experiment, increase your speed and see what happens to the regen selection

Two reason is that Motioneering uses the motion profile and dwell and duty cycle entered in the profile.  Your dwell could be large enough to let the drive dissipate the energy on it's own (what was stored in the DC Bus capacitors).  Or maybe your motion profile doesn't have enough information to accurately size the regen.  Try entering your motion profile as a series of moves.
