Can the AKD BASIC drive be a MODBUS master? | 18 May 2016 | |

Can the AKD BASIC drive be a MODBUS master?

Im using an AKD BASIC drive. I also have an AKD -P motion tasking drive, I would like to have the BASIC drives program read MODBUS registers in the motion tasking drive. Is this possible?

My goal is to have the BASIC drive know if the motion tasking drive is in a fault condition. I unfortunately cannot use IO for this.

The AKD drives are not capable of being a Modbus master device.  However, you can put a PLC or HMI on the network and have the register values tranferred in the PLC or HMI program.  Then you can have the AKD Basic drive send a request to the PLC/HMI to read/write specific data from/to the AKD-P drive.  There are USER.INT parameters that can be used to transfer variable values, or you can use the 5000 series user defined Modbus registers in the Basic program.  If you use our AKI series HMI panel, you would need to use the C# script program to transfer values from tags for one drive to the tags for the other drive.  Technically, you can also have the AKD-P drive initiate read/write requests by using USER.INT parameters in digital input command buffers.
