Kollmorgen Recognized as 2010 Reader's Choice

RADFORD, VA, October 8, 2010 – Kollmorgen has been recognized by Control Design magazine as the #1 preferred vendor for Stepper Motors in their 2010 Readers’ Choice Awards. The awards are the result of an unaided survey of subscribers who have authority to specify, recommend or purchase industrial automation and control products. Hardware and software categories are listed without any list of vendors, and participants are asked to indicate the single best vendor for the products he or she has experience with.

Kollmorgen high-performance stepper motors deliver precise, cost-effective, and maintenance-free motion control that help engineers build optimized machines, faster. These 2-phase step motors inherently move in very precise 1.8° increments (200/revolution), which are simple to control and do not require complicated, expensive feedback devices. Combined with micro-stepping drives, each 1.8° step can be broken into even smaller increments for true servo-like performance and, if position verification is required, motors are available with encoders. Several step motor families feature the addition of Kollmorgen’s innovative SIGMAX® technology for higher torque and acceleration rates. Due to their ease-of-use, simplified control needs and freedom from expensive feedback requirements, Kollmorgen step motors are excellent alternatives to pneumatic, hydraulic and servo motor systems.

One of Kollmorgen’s leading step motor families is the CT Series which incorporates innovative cooling technology, high torque magnetic designs, rugged bearings, and high voltage insulation systems. These features provide high torque motors, which support large mechanical loads, and can be used with all drives. Another family, Pacific Scientific POWERMAX II® P and M Series, sets the standard for value in NEMA 23 (60 mm) step motors. They are available in half, single, and two stack configurations that provide holding torques from 42 to 253 oz-in. M Series Motors feature the addition of SIGMAX® technology. Also with hybrid step motors found in the Pacific Scientific POWERPAC® N3, N4, K3, and K4 Series, machines builders can expect more power in a smaller package. These rugged NEMA 34 and 42 (90 and 110 mm) frame motors provide among the highest torques per frame size in the industry.
