Roller-coaster blast off


What an appearance at the November sps ipc drives tradeshowin Nuremberg! The Fingercoaster by our customer Smaaash Entertainment from India produced smiling faces all around on visitors to the KOLLMORGEN stand in Hall 3. What the entertainment visionaries at Smaaash have developed with the Fingercoaster is certainly innovative. The symbiosis of virtual reality and motion control creates an up-close and personal roller-coaster experience. The main attraction is in the fact that you can personally set your own route using your finger. The loops, screws, curves, and steep inclines drawn on the touchscreen are converted into driving profiles and then translated into the corresponding movements by Kollmorgen's AKD servo drives and AKM servo motors. The Virtual Reality glasses at the same time provide the right three-dimensional images. What a ride!

AKM2G: The new generation servo motor comes with 30 percent more torque


While some were enjoying the Fingercoaster loops and steep curves at the sps ipc drives tradeshow, others were getting into the new generation of AKM2G servo motors. And the enthusiasm is justified. The second generation of servo motors deliver an average continuous torque increase of 30 percent – a major leap in servo motor innovation. The higher torque density of the AKM2G substantially increase machine performance without increasing motor size. Greater flexibility and wider speed range enables machines to run faster, move heavier loads, and increase throughput.
