PMAC Motors
Kollmorgen engineers put their pride in developing a motor to fit each customers needs. For example, Kollmorgen developed a PMAC motor for the Segway- a motor with breakthrough torque density and built-in sinusoidal feedback. The Segway motor features dual windings that when connected to a dual drive, allows for complete redundancy. This makes for virtually two motors in one mechanical package and should one fail, the Segway still functions. Kollmorgen Engineers are currently fine tuning the qualities of a permanent magnet AC Motor(PMAC) solution for lift truck applications. The PMAC motor is approximately 10-15 percent more efficient than an induction motor, enabling smaller size and/or batteries and/or longer work shifts.
