Discrete Input/Output

These Block I/O modules feature discrete (On/Off) inputs and outputs. We offer a 24 VDC module with 8 input points that provide digital signals to the CPU, and 8 output points for powering individual loads. Our 2/2/2 channel module has two stepper outputs, two encoder inputs and two 24 VDC inputs.

Block 24 VDC 8 In/8 Out Module:

  • Provides eight output points and eight input points
  • Eight point output section:
    • Sources voltage for individual loads from a DC power supply
    • The external supply is nominally 24 volts, but can be between 20 and 30 volts
    • Eight LEDs near the field terminal connector of the module indicate the logic state that drives each output
    • An LED labeled SC lights if any output attempts to drive a short circuit
  • Eight point input section:
    • Converts DC signals from devices into logic levels that the CPU can use
    • Each signal is converted into a corresponding logic 1 or 0 which is transmitted through the communication interface to the CPU module
    • An “on” signal is nominally 24 VDC, but can be any level between 15 and 30 volts
    • An “off” signal is any level below 5V
    • Wiring configurations may be sink or source
    • Eight LEDs near the field terminal connector of the module indicate the logic state of each input

 

Block Output Stepper/Input Encoder/ Input 24 VDC Module (2/2/2 Channel):

  • Two output stepper channels:
    • Each channel can control one stepper drive
    • Maximum step rate is one million steps per second
    • An external power supply (4.5 VDC to 20 VDC) or the internal +5 VDC can be used to power each stepper output
    • Commands and control data are sent to the module, and status and position information are received from the module, via software
  • Two input encoder channels:
    • Each channel can interface to one independent quadrature incremental encoder or equivalent device
    • Information from each encoder is used to update a separate position counter and latch within the module
    • For each channel, a 24-bit counter is incremented or decremented based on signals it receives from the A, A, B, and B; outputs of a quadrature encoder
    • The counter value can be latched (stored) if the module receives an I or I output signal from the encoder
  • Two 24 VDC inputs:
    • The 24 VDC inputs convert DC signals from devices into logic levels that the CPU can use
    • Each signal is converted into a corresponding logic 1 or 0 which is transmitted through the communication interface to the CPU module
    • An “on” signal is nominally 24 VDC, but can be any level between 15V and 30V
    • An “off” signal is any level below 5V
    • The wiring configurations may be sink or source
    • Two field-side LEDs indicate the state of the inputs
