Most of our drives feature integrated power supplies. However, some models require an external power supply, and some feature a DC bus that allows you to power multiple drives from a single external supply. Our PA Series power supplies provide clean, reliable power in a variety of input voltages and output power for use in these situations.
For drives operating from a separate power supply, the supply power output rating must equal or exceed the combined average power of all drives operating simultaneously. The average power of an individual drive amplifier is based on the power calculation of the A RMS torque and speed requirements for all “motoring” motion segments.

Considering motor and drive losses, as a general rule, for permanent magnet servos 1 kW of input power is needed for every 750 Watts of output power from the motor. This simple rule is not valid when running the motor at or near zero speed however. In this case I^2R losses may be a large percentage of the total input power, thus decreasing efficiency. Use our MOTIONEERING® application sizing and selection software to precisely calculate power supply sizing requirements.
